What is Breed Specific Legislation?

Picture

Breed specific legislation is exactly what sounds like, regulation of your right to own or, in many cases, not own a dog based solely on the breed or "type" of dog, not your responsibility as an owner. It is like an apartment complex or job, denying a certain race of people from applying, just because of their appearance, or history.

Merriam Webster has a definition for racism that can be understood by all people. While reading, think about what some people are doing to eliminate the animals we love.
The definition is as follows:

rac·ism  [rey-siz-uhm]  –noun
1.a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2.a policy, system of government, etc., based upon orfostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3.hatred or intolerance of another race  or other races.

Granted people will have their own feelings and beliefs, we do not currently have any laws against any specific race of people. Why not you ask? Well, because, the actions of a few should not determine the outcome of many. Would you think it fair if someone the same race as you, decided whether you and your family live or die, because they committed a crime?
